How to Get Rid of a Runny Nose

Runny nose is a common problem that is experienced by an average person almost once or twice in a year. There are certain factors that lead to such a condition that somehow blocks your nasal cavity by an excessive mucus production. It can be due to cold, flu, viral infection, weather change, air pollution, smoking, use of insecticide sprays or deodorants, allergies to pollen, dust, wind etc.

Runny nose is symptomatic due to some reason or cause. There are a number of ways to relieve the symptoms of runny nose but to treat the cause is a more better option rather to treat a symptom. Using nasal sprays is not recommended in many sensitive cases as it has side effects and its not a cheap option.

Remedies To Get Rid of a Runny Nose:

Pressure Point massage technique

This method can actually give a fast relief from nasal flow and can allow you to breathe in a natural way. It contains 4 basic steps to be repeated as many times in a day as u like with intervals.

Use your index finger and apply at least 10 pressures on the cavity near corner of each nostril.Repeat the same with the cavity behind the ear lobes. Then finally massage 10 times with your thumb and finger on each of your earlobe.

Blowing your nose gently can release the mucus. A soft tissue or a clean cloth can be used for cleaning but you show not blow too often as it can increase irritation and causes the nose skin to burn.

Nasal Irrigation:

Its been prescribed by The University of Michigan to irrigate your nose a couple of time a day with a mixture of a teaspoon of salt and lukewarm water. Spraying this liquid in each nostril with the help of a syringe or neti pot can give relief in congestion and irritation. Those who are not comfortable to squirt this liquid into the nostrils, steam from this water can be inhaled that helps in removing the mucus. A small amount of Eucalyptus oil or menthol can be added to this water for a cooling and relaxing effect.

Vitamin C:

It is considered as a great anti oxidant. It fights against and protects from the infections especially in flu. Fresh lemonade or orange juice can give a boost to your immune system that can fight with the allergy or an infection in a better way.

Honey:

Honey is natural healer. It gives relief to a sore throat thus curing cough and sneezing.

Ginger:

Chewing a little piece of ginger or taking it with hot water can actually works wonders in a runny nose treatment. It regulates the blood circulation and gets rid of the mucus.

Water Intake:

It is the most important way of getting rid of runny or stuffy nose. Try to drink as much water as you can as it can helps in thinning the mucus thus helping in clearing your nose in a natural way.
