Simple Techniques To Get Rid Of Ingrown Hair

Majority of people face this problem of hair that curls back and grows inwards. The issue is mostly encountered by people with curly hair. However, people who shave on a regular basis might be irritated by this issue frequently. They often appear as ugly black spots where the hair does not grow out. These might be accompanied by pus filled pimples at the hair root.

Annoyed by ingrown hair? You would want to take the following tips which will be effective to get rid of ingrown hair.

  • Exfoliate the skin areas where you have ingrown hair. You can use Tylenol, a mixture of olive oil and sugar or salt and scrub it gently on your skin for at least fifteen minutes. This removes dirt and oil on your skin that could be the cause of trapping ingrown hair. Exfoliation over the areas will pull the tip of the hair out.
  • It is recommended that you use acne medication like lotions and creams on ingrown hair. it will particularly help in the case where the ingrown hair is grown over a zit or pimple containing pus. Dab medicines containing salicylic acid or some amount of  benzoyl peroxide. These are highly effective on acne and will also reduce any swelling around the ingrown hair.
  • Aspirin can also be applied as medication on an ingrown hair. Also, toothpaste can be applied to the spots where you have ingrown hair with irritating blackheads. is also an acne treatment
  • Soak a cloth in hot water and press it against the skin with ingrown hair. Keep the warm compress on the surface of your skin till the tiny ingrown hair appears to the surface. This technique is easy-to-do and very effective in getting rid of the ingrown hair that is bugging you.
  • Heard of tweezers ? You can use them to pull out the ingrown hair as well. You don’t necessarily need to pluck the hair altogether. Any other sharp device like a needle can also be utilized to tactfully tug gently and get the end of the ingrown hair out of the skin. However, please be cautious when using these devices on your skin making sure that you do not end up damaging your skin.
  • Avoid hair removal techniques that pull the hair out from the follicle because it might change the direction of the hair growth. Hence, waxing,  tweezing or epilating the hair on your skin increases the likelihood of ingrown hair at those areas.
  • To keep the skin clear of ingrown hair wash the area where you had them earlier with moisturizing soap and water. The application of a topical solution can also prevent ingrown hair from appearing on your skin.
  • Last but not the least, you can use some medicine which are not directly meant for ingrown hair(obviously because it’s not a disease!) but are effective in lessening them. For instance retinoid medication will help alter the skin pigment and reduce ingrown hair. Some time antibiotics can also work. However, always consult a physician or a dermatologist before taking any such medication.
